Nautical Astronomy
Nautical Astronomy is an engaging and vital component of our curriculum at Peninsula High School's NNDCC/NJROTC program, aimed at equipping cadets with the knowledge and skills to navigate using celestial bodies. Through interactive lessons and practical exercises, cadets delve into the fascinating world of nautical astronomy, learning to identify and utilize stars, planets, and other celestial objects for orientation and navigation at sea. They grasp the principles of celestial navigation, calculating their position based on celestial observations and understanding how time and location interconnect. By mastering nautical astronomy, our cadets develop a unique set of navigational tools that complement modern technologies, fostering self-reliance and adaptability in maritime operations. This profound understanding of celestial navigation not only enriches their naval knowledge but also instills a deep appreciation for the wonders of the night sky and the timeless art of navigating by the stars.
